Meet Joanne...
...A compassionate Psychotherapy Intern helping individuals navigate struggles with anxiety, trauma, grief, and depression, as well as family dynamics and life transitions, to empower them to create positive changes in their lives.
With extensive experience working with diverse populations, including refugees and individuals with emotional disorders and developmental disabilities, Joanne understands the complexity of human emotions. Utilizing evidence-based therapeutic modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), Joanne is committed to empowering her clients on their unique journeys toward healing and growth.
As a 1.5-generation immigrant from Korea, Joanne is deeply attuned to the challenges many face in navigating cultural transitions and self-identity. Her own life experiences have taught her that amidst adversity often lies a deeper meaning. She believes in the power of choice, or freedom of will—a principle rooted in logotherapy—enabling individuals to shift their perspectives and attitudes, even in unchanging circumstances.
By exploring the meaning behind struggles and striving to foster a strong therapeutic relationship, Joanne aims to be the supportive presence her clients need during their most challenging times.
Joanne's academic background includes currently working towards completing her Master of Divinity in Clinical Counselling at Tyndale University, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from the University of Toronto, complemented by minors in Women and Gender Studies and English. Through her studies, she has developed a keen awareness of the systemic inequalities affecting marginalized groups.
Outside of her studies and sessions with clients, Joanne enjoys exploring nature, reading, watching Korean dramas, and sharing culinary adventures with those close to her.
Joanne offers In-Person Counselling Sessions in Guelph at Nillo Wellness and Online Counselling Sessions all across Ontario with sessions on Mondays (Online) and Tuesdays (In-Person & Online)
