Low-Cost Therapy for Trauma, Identity Exploration, Grief & Spirituality

Sometimes what feels like anxiety, grief, or feeling stuck is connected to stories you've had to carry for years.

Stories about who you are,
about what you've survived,
about who you had to do just to get through.

Therapy offers an opportunity to slow down, make sense of these experiences, and begin creating a life that feels more authentic, meaningful, and connected to who you truly are.

Sofia holds curiosity, compassion, and deep respect for each person's unique story.

Providing therapy for adults (18+) experiencing trauma, complex trauma (CPTSD), grief, anxiety, identity exploration, life transitions, spirituality, LGBTQIA2S+ concerns, and relationship challenges to help clients make sense of their experiences, reconnect with who they are, and create lives that feel meaningful, aligned, and true to themselves..

As a Niilo Student Therapist, Sofia provides therapy under the supervision of experienced Registered Psychotherapist Clinical Supervisor, offering affordable, reduced-cost and free therapy options while receiving ongoing clinical guidance to support safe, ethical, and thoughtful care for in-person therapy in Guelph and online psychotherapy across Ontario while completing her clinical internship.

Who Sofia Helps...

Sofia welcomes adults of every gender identity, sexual orientation, culture, faith tradition, and life experience.

For individual adults (18+)  who are unpacking the healing from trauma, grieving a loss, exploring your identity, navigating a major life transition, or feeling uncertain about your relationships, faith, or sense of belonging, who want to make sense of all you are carrying.

Sofia supports adults experiencing anxiety, complex trauma (CPTSD), identity exploration, LGBTQIA2S+ concerns, grief, spirituality, and relationship challenges, helping clients reconnect with themselves and create lives that feel authentic, meaningful, and aligned.

You may benefit from therapy with Sofia if you...

  • want to understand yourself more deeply rather than simply reduce symptoms

  • are exploring questions of identity or belonging

  • identify as LGBTQIA2S+

  • are healing from trauma or complex trauma (CPTSD)

  • are grieving someone or something significant

  • are questioning faith, spirituality, or meaning

  • are navigating a major life transition

  • appreciate reflective conversations that gently challenge old patterns

What Therapy is like with Sofia...

Most people don't come to therapy because they need more advice.

They come because the ways they've been making sense of themselves, their relationships, or their lives no longer feel sustainable.

I believe many of the patterns people struggle with today were once creative ways of surviving difficult experiences.

Rather than judging those patterns, therapy creates space to understand where they came from, the purpose they served, and whether they continue to support the life you want today.

Drawing primarily from Narrative Therapy, while integrating Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Spiritually Integrated Psychotherapy, I support clients to explore both what has happened and the meanings they've made of those experiences. Therapy with me may allow for you to uncover parts of yourself that have learned to protect you, and the deeper patterns that continue to influence how you move through the world.

People have consistently described me as someone who helps them feel both deeply understood and thoughtfully challenged.

I have been told that I ask the kinds of questions that stay with people long after a conversation ends.

I am especially passionate about working with members of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, individuals exploring spirituality or religious identity, survivors of sexual and gender-based violence, and those navigating questions of meaning, purpose, belonging, and authenticity.

If you’re ready to better understand yourself, not just what you’re struggling with, but how you came to carry it, I would be honoured to support you.

Therapy is not about fixing you.

It's about understanding you.

Therapy with Sofia creates space for you to make sense of who you are, your hurt and your struggles with honesty, compassion, and curiosity.

Why Choose a Niilo Student Therapist?

Choosing a Student Therapist can be an excellent option for individuals seeking thoughtful, evidence-informed care at a more affordable rate.

At Niilo Wellness, a Student Therapist is completing Master's level psychotherapy training while providing counselling direct to clients and supervised by our Clinical Supervisor to fulfill the ethical and professional standards of our regulatory body, the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO)

Reduced-rate therapy is available through the Niilo Wellness Student Therapist Program, making counselling more accessible while maintaining high standards of care.

Niilo Student Therapists offer sliding scale, even free therapy options to those local to Guelph or all across Ontario through virtual online sessions.

Sofia's Internship placement period is Sep 1, 2026 - May 31, 2027.

It is possible to work with Sofia throughout this time as she earns clinical hours,  receives ongoing supervision, and peer support from the experienced Niilo Registered Psychotherapists. This allows clients to benefit from both her dedicated care and the guidance of seasoned clinicians throughout the therapeutic process.

Most extended health benefit plans include coverage for psychotherapy with a Registered Psychotherapist (RP or RP-Qualifying). Since Student Therapists are directly supervised by RP Clinical Supervisors, it is the RP that is clinically responsible for the client and therefore services provided by a Student Therapist may also be reimbursable by your health benefit plan.

If your plan includes coverage for Registered Psychotherapist (RP or RP-Qualifying), sessions with Student Therapists may be partially or fully covered. Be sure to check into your specific plan as coverage limits, eligible designations, and reimbursement processes vary by provider.

Choosing to work with Nillo Student Therapist Sofia is a great option for those seeking support for anxiety, life transitions, identity, postpartum, parenting, self-esteem, and personal growth.

To Sofia, seeking support through therapy is important because...

Trauma, grief, identity exploration, and major life transitions can disrupt our sense of self and belonging.

Therapy provides a space to make sense of these experiences, understand how they have shaped us, and reconnect with parts of ourselves that may have been hidden, wounded, or forgotten.

By fostering self-awareness, self-compassion, and meaningful change, therapy can help individuals move beyond surviving and toward living in a way that feels authentic, connected, and aligned with their values.

This is one of the reasons I am drawn to incorporate Narrative Therapy with my clients. This approach allows clients to recognize that the stories we tell ourselves about our lives influence how we see ourselves and what we believe is possible. Together, you can begin separating yourself from the problems you've experienced while discovering strengths, values, and possibilities that may have become difficult to see.
